Residents of Lincoln’s West End were invited to St Faith’s Church on Charles Street West where 7th Lincoln Cubs were running a café selling a selection of cakes and sandwiches; the event also had a range of activities for people to take part in, including crafts and sports.
The event was a partnership between community groups; including Scouts, the West-Enders, the West End Residents Association (WERA) and Guides, as part of celebrations marking the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The Cubs enjoyed meeting the local community and selling cakes that had been donated by their parents and local residents. Funds from cake sales will be shared between the Cub Group, St Faith’s Church, the West-Enders and Guides.
Cub, Maria - aged 9, was glad to be involved in the celebrations:
“It’s been really good to be involved, it is great that selling cakes is raising money for lots of people and also it is also giving me the chance to work towards some of my badges.”
Jacob, aged 9, also helped selling cakes:
“I think this is a good way to celebrate the Queen’s birthday; it helps the community to fundraise, socialise and eat cake!
“I like seeing people’s faces when they taste the yummy cakes.”
Ruby, aged 10, enjoyed helping at the event:
“I like it because we are helping to fundraise and some of the money will help to get us new equipment and games, it helps lots of other people from Lincoln too.”
Cub Leader, Anja Reynolds said:
“Events like this one bring young people up to be valuable members of their community and get involved in their local area.
“It is great for them to be out there taking part but also they can feel a sense of achievement as they work towards gaining badges too.”
