I hope this Bulletin finds you all well-rested and ready for an exciting new chapter in Scouting! As summer winds down and we transition into autumn, I hope you are looking forward to getting back to your Scout groups after what I hope was a refreshing and adventurous summer break. I trust you had the chance to relax, explore, and recharge over the summer, whether through holidays, camps, or personal time spent outdoors. I know lots of groups were also at EIJ, Larkin and elsewhere - I hope you had a great time. Michelle and my summer was full with attending the Essex International Jamboree (EIJ), DofE assessing in the Lakes, attending Lincoln Pride and of course a new granddaughter. Now, as we gear up for the next Scouting season, I can’t help but feel the excitement that comes with new challenges and friendships that Scouting brings. I hope we will see you at LincsFest, but if not good luck with the year ahead! County Media Team Are you interested in Photography, Video Editing, Social Media, Radio, Web sites, Journalism etc? If yes then we want to hear from you. Lincolnshire Scouts are looking to build a Media team so we can share our adventures to the widest audience. We have many roles available so If you are a wiz on the computer, with a camera or on social media please visit the vacancies page and get in touch. We are especially looking for someone / a small team for the following tasks: Web Editors Make sure the website has lots of interesting and up to date content. Able to man the ticket system and distribute accordingly. Ensure the layout and design of the website is maintained and updated. Act as a point of communication for people to come to regarding the website. Bulletin Editor Collect Information from across the County Team. Compile and distribute the monthly bulletin. Social Media Team Members Gather media posts from Group and District pages. Create posts on Social Media for County events and Information. Respond to comments on County media accounts. What is SWAN? Be an active crew member, sailing a yacht around the Norfolk Broads on an exciting week-long adventure. No prior sailing experience is needed – we’ve got fantastic people who will help you “learn the ropes”. There are also pre-expedition training sessions run during the winter so you can know what to expect and what to bring with you. There can be early starts and sometimes it can be tiring but the way everyone works together creates friends for life and an amazing experience! Is SWAN popular? Yes! There is often high demand for places. Applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been successful by 1st December 2024. Deposits will be refunded to unsuccessful applicants. Pre-expedition training Our experience shows that training prior the expedition can really help everyone get the most out of it. So whatever level you are at you will be expected to attend the pre-expedition training provided in your area. Is SWAN open to young people and adults not in Scouting? Sadly not. All participants on SWAN must be an active member of Scouting prior the expedition. If you register for SWAN and subsequently leave Scouting we’re afraid you will be unable to attend and you may lose your deposit and any payments made. What if I can’t afford the fee but would like to attend? SWAN is open to everyone. If you are likely to struggle with the cost of the expedition please let us know when you register. We’ll then be in contact with you on a confidential basis to see how we can support. We have a limited fund available to support both young people and adults who are actively contributing to the running of the expedition. I’m worried I won’t know anyone, is that going to be a problem? SWAN brings together young people and adults from around the country. During the expedition everyone is split into crews of people they are unlikely to have met/sailed with before. SWAN is a great way of meeting new people. I have a question before I apply, who do I contact? Please send any general queries to steven.tupper@swan.peterboroughscouts.org Please send area specific queries to the SWAN area coordinators: Peterborough Explorers: Aly Royle: aly.royle@swan.peterboroughscouts.org Peterborough Scouts: Greg Jones: greg.jones@peterboroughscouts.org Cromwell: John Nicoll: john.e.nicoll@btopenworld.com Cambridge: Graham Steed: raptors@12thcambridge.org.uk Winchester: Remus Sawyerr: remus.sawyerr@swan.peterboroughscouts.org Cumbria: John Mason: john@meremountains.co.uk Mid Wales: Lisa Stead: lisa.danycoed@btinternet.com Shropshire: George Jones: georgeedjones@gmail.com Interested? Applications are welcomed from Scouts aged 13 and over (at 11th April 2025); Explorers and assisting adults. The cost for the week including food, boat hire and mooring fees is £340. Transport to and from the Broads is organised locally and there may be a small additional cost for this. Make sure you’ve registered before 1st October 2024, by completing our online application form and sorting your deposit. To book your place please complete the form found here and pay the £100 deposit. https://forms.office.com/e/PzzFLC2cyb Applications close on the 1st October 2024.

Rabbit Run is a challenge hike, where you plan your own route to complete in a set time, in the dark and answer questions on the way. The twist is the chasers who cause you to lose points. Anybody aged 13 or over, so it can be used as a linking activity for Scouts to Explorers, Explorers, Network and leaders. You just need to be competent in navigation and walking! Participant – Take part in a team of between 4 and 7 people to plan and walk your route, gain as many points as possible and win the trophy. The team with the least points will win the toilet seat! Chaser – Small teams of over 18’s walking, hiding and trying to catch participants. This year there is a chasers competition for the first time. Chasers chose a start location in the playing area, they have the same time as participants to get back to the site, while hunting for teams of participants, which will cost points for the team and gain points for the chasers. Leader – Bring your young people along, enjoy good food and company, drink coffee, support your teams.
