We are very proud to hear today that Alan Scott, a long service member of our county, previously CC, the chairman of Poacher International Jamboree and Lincolnshire Scouts has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday honours!
He has been involved with scouting for more than 50 years, holding the role of county chairman for 12 years and chairing the county's international jamboree camp Poacher for 15 years. He has also travelled abroad four times with the World Scout Jamboree. Today, he is still involved with the Stamford and District scouts and runs the scout camp site in Empingham Road. Now retired, Alan previously worked as the clerk of works at Burghley House and it was during his time there that Alan and his first wife Margaret held craft fairs, fundraising for the scouts.
As well as his scouting commitments, Alan also finds time to be a church warden at St Martin's Church in Stamford, a role he has held for 35 years, as well as volunteering twice a week at Nene Valley Railway in Wansford. "Since I retired, I think it's really important to keep busy," said Alan, 72. Alan is convinced it was someone involved in scouting that nominated him for his honour, although he has no idea who.
